Void's Tanking Guide 5.0.4

This is a specific guide which will grow over time as I discover new things, tips, bugs and strategies on my Tanking journey. I've played the Warlock class since Vanilla (approx. 7 years I suppose) and I do not have any alts so I have no experience in healing and in Tanking. Gaining the ability to be a tank is a big big deal for me personally especially after being DPS for so many years and being over shadowed by roles who can call the shots. Maximum efficiency is what I am trying to achieve for this new life at tanking.

How to: healing a Warlock Tank

At first glance, healers new at healing a warlock might be confused in terms of healing the pet or the warlock so hopefully reading this will make the understanding better.

Dark Regeneration: For 12 Seconds, I will regenerate 30% of my HP and all heals on me will be 25% higher. Healers should take advantage of this buff during crazy shit moments.

Double Team Tanking Mode #1 (Trash)

If I have my Voidwalker out and along with the Soul link buff, this means I am going to tanking in mode #1. I tend to use this mode for clearing trash simply because my pet will be tanking some mobs and I will be tanking some mobs this will reduce all damage received plus with the help of Soul link (50% damage & healing spit between me and my pet), I will take significant low damage even without using any defensive Cool down.

Depending on what healing class is paired with me, some notes worthy points are that putting a shield on my pet or healing my pet is as good as healing me instead because all healing are spilt equally.

My Voidwalker has his own powerful defence cooldown so he is very much a powerhouse Tank by himself. My own Tank defence CD skills are completely different from him. By dual tanking, my pet gets to use his defence CD to negate damage with my using my own defence CD to negate damage on different enemy.

Single Tanking Mode # 2 (Boss)

Depending on my talent selection, I can both have my pet out and sacrificed my pet and be in tanking mode #2.

As a healer, if you were to see my Voidwalker out during a Boss fight, this means I have turned his threatening presence off (Aggro skill). He will continue to attack the boss and doing good damage but not stealing aggro from me as I will be the single tanking during the boss for direction and positioning control.

If I have Grimoire of Sacrifice talented then I will be sacrificing my Voidwalker to gain a powerful buff. (+20% HP, 2% HP regen, 30% HP CD skill/2min, + 30% damage increase) In this stance, you the healer will only see me without any pets.

The warlock using Dark Bargain which makes him immune to all damage for 8 seconds. Also along with many other skills that a normal tank have. Healers need to be aware of this so they are prepared to heal me if such a situation ever happens.

Tanking Rotation

Pulling Trash far apart

Click on each mob and put corruption, As mobs gather in front of you cast hand of Gul’dan. The Shadowflame damage applied will cause high threat to surrounding mobs  and ensuring no leak. Top it off by casting Carrion Swarm (Glyphed)

Pulling Trash that are far apart
Target 1 mob and cast hand of Gul’dan
Alternatively, with enough Fury to spend, get close and cast Immolation Aura

Pulling Boss
Cast Provocation
Cast Corruption
Cast hand of Gul’dan
Cast Dark Regeneration (2min CD)
Cast Dark Soul (2min CD) Increase damage reduction by approx 10% more.
Using these 2 defenses CD will warrant you enough time to build up your fury.
Cast Imp Swarm
Cast Grimoire: Felguard
Cast Summon Doomguard
After 20secs when Dark Soul expires
Cast Healthstone (Glyphed) (2min CD)
Cast Shadow bulwark (2min CD)
Cast Demonic Slash to gain fury as fast as possible.
Cast Hand of Gul’dan when Shadowflame expires.
Cast Fury Ward every 10secs or when fury allows.
